A BAND CALLED PAIN To Release Debut Album In July

May 9, 2007

San Francisco-based metal outfit A BAND CALLED PAIN will release its album debut album, "Broken Dreams", on July 3 via Hiero-Imperium (distributed by Fontana/Universal). The CD's first single will be "The Pieces", a "stand-out tune that highlights the band's distinctive heavy/rock sound," according to a press release. A video is currently in the works.

Formed by cousins, guitarist and principal songwriter Shaun Bivens (Oakland, CA) and lead vocalist Allen Anthony (Richmond, CA) in the late '90s, A BAND CALLED PAIN (A.B.C.P.) came into existence through a shared passion for heavy metal and hard rock music. (Both grew up listening to IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, AC/DC and other hard-rocking bands.) Through a tireless search of the Bay Area, Shaun and Allen rounded up two additional talented hard rockers: Tony Providence (San Leandra, CA) on drums and Bryan Dean (San Francisco, CA) on bass.

With "crushing" riffs reminiscent of both PANTERA and ALICE IN CHAINS, A BAND CALLED PAIN's album track "Holy" was featured on the "Saw II" soundtrack and "Hellbound" was included in Dan Cooke's HBO comedy special "Tourgasm".

Shaun Bivens points out, "We could have easily gone down the hip-hop or R&B route and each of us at one time or another given it a shot. We could be making raps about growing up in the hood and gang violence, but that's just not who we are. We're four guys who grew up loving heavy metal, so that's what we play. For us, it is the song that matters most."
